PROM

A programmable read-only memory is a device that has the AND plane and OR plane within the same IC package, the AND plane is fixed and the OR plane is programmable.

In the PROM, the AND array acts as a decoder. PROMs are often also referred to as PLDs.

The advantages of ROM as PLD is as follows:

  1. The minimization of logic circuits is not required.
  2. The circuit can be modified faster.
  3. It is cost-efficient.
  4. It has a higher speed.
