Gen AI Adoption Soars in India, But Skills Gap Persists: AWS Survey
Nearly every Indian organization is exploring Generative AI—but is training enough to keep up with the momentum?
A recent research study titled ‘Generative AI Adoption Index’, commissioned by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in collaboration with Access Partnership, reveals that 98% of Indian organizations are already using Generative AI tools, with 83% having appointed a dedicated AI leader, typically a Chief AI Officer (CAIO).
Survey Snapshot
The study surveyed 415 senior IT decision-makers across Indian industries and highlighted that while there is rapid adoption and a strong push for Gen AI training, there’s a limited understanding of the specific skilling needs of employees.
Challenges Identified
Despite the widespread integration of Gen AI:
Many firms struggle with identifying effective skilling strategies
There are budget constraints and implementation uncertainties
Training alone may not be sufficient to bridge the evolving AI talent gap
Industry Demand and AWS Initiatives
The demand for Generative AI talent is expected to become ubiquitous across sectors. To support this transformation:
AWS has launched a Generative AI Innovation Center backed by a $100 million investment
The initiative provides free workshops and AI expert-led training
AWS also plans to invest $12.7 billion into India’s cloud infrastructure by 2030, building on their $3.71 billion investment from 2016–2022
Leadership Insight
“There’s a growing recognition of AI as a transformative technology that demands strategic leadership and structured change management,” said Satinder Pal Singh, Head of Solution Architecture at AWS India and South Asia.
