Narayana Murthy, the visionary founder of Infosys, recently shared how artificial intelligence has transformed the way he prepares for lectures and keynote speeches.
During a recent event, Murthy explained how his son, Rohan Murty, encouraged him to explore the power of AI tools. Initially skeptical, he soon discovered that ChatGPT could serve as a valuable assistant for outlining content, organizing ideas, and refining delivery. What used to take days of preparation now takes just a few focused hours.
“It’s not about replacing human thought, it’s about amplifying it,” Murthy emphasized.
He believes this is a prime example of how AI can act as a productivity booster, especially for professionals who need to communicate complex ideas. Murthy stressed that AI doesn’t think for you — instead, it helps you think faster and better, provided you give it clear and well-defined input.
This insight aligns with Murthy’s broader belief that AI will play a supportive role in workplaces, rather than a disruptive one. He encouraged Indian tech companies to embrace AI tools to enhance their workflows — especially in areas like coding, error detection, and process automation. With repetitive tasks delegated to intelligent systems, professionals can focus on solving innovative and high-impact challenges.
To illustrate his point, Murthy drew a parallel with how computers were adopted in British banks in the 1970s. Despite initial fears of job losses, automation actually led to improved productivity and eventually increased employment opportunities. He predicts a similar trajectory with AI adoption, where it will unlock new avenues of growth rather than shrink existing ones.
These reflections were shared by Murthy during the launch of a new scholarship initiative at IIM Ahmedabad, established by his family’s investment company, Catamaran. The scholarship is designed to support the top-performing MBA student each year for the next two decades, with funding structured to adjust with inflation.
