Perplexity’s Bold Bet on AI: How Developers Now Deliver in Hours, Not Days

Perplexity, the rising star in the AI search landscape, is proving that artificial intelligence isn’t just transforming user experiences — it’s redefining how software teams operate behind the scenes.

In a recent insight shared by CEO Aravind Srinivas, the company has fully embraced AI coding tools within its engineering workflow.

“The pace of innovation we’re seeing today was unimaginable even a year ago,” said Srinivas. “AI isn’t just assisting our engineers — it’s accelerating the entire development lifecycle.”

From Lines of Code to Launch, at Lightning Speed

Perplexity’s internal policy encourages developers to actively use AI coding assistants for writing, debugging, testing, and deploying code. This shift has drastically reduced experimentation time, enabling rapid feature rollouts and faster bug resolution.

Unlike traditional workflows that require several rounds of trial and iteration, AI tools now help engineers identify optimal solutions early in the process — compressing weeks of work into a fraction of the time.

A New AI-Driven Browsing Experience: Introducing Comet

But the company isn’t stopping at internal productivity gains.

Perplexity recently launched Comet, a next-generation web browser that integrates its AI search engine into the user experience. Instead of sifting through dozens of tabs or keyword-stuffed search results, users get direct, AI-powered answers within the browser interface.

Srinivas emphasized that Comet offers a kind of AI-native user experience that even the biggest tech players would find difficult to replicate.

“Building a great chatbot is one thing,” he said. “But embedding intelligence deeply into the browser experience is a different league — and that’s what sets Comet apart.”

Growth Numbers That Speak for Themselves

The momentum at Perplexity is undeniable. From a modest 3,000 queries per day at launch in 2022, the platform now handles over 30 million daily searches, with 780 million queries logged in May 2025 alone.

Srinivas is confident that the company will hit 1 billion weekly queries within the next year, a target that would place Perplexity among the most-used AI platforms globally.

AI Isn’t Perfect — But It’s Powerful

While the benefits are clear, Srinivas acknowledged that AI tools are not without challenges. Occasionally, the tools suggest incorrect or overly complex code that can introduce hard-to-trace bugs.

Still, the Perplexity team sees this as part of the learning curve. With proper developer oversight, the positives vastly outweigh the occasional misstep.

$14 Billion Vision Backed by Major Investors

As the company expands both its tools and user base, Perplexity is reportedly closing in on a major $500 million funding round, which would give the company a valuation of $14 billion. This would cement its place among the most valuable AI startups in the world.

Rewriting the Rules of Development and Discovery

Perplexity’s story is more than just one of growth — it’s about how a company can successfully integrate AI not only into its products but also into its core way of working. From faster code to smarter search, the message is clear: with AI as a co-pilot, the future is being built faster than ever before.
