Tableau – Sorting

Tableau provides several ways to sort data in a worksheet, depending on the type of data you are working with and the desired sorting order.

Quick Sorting in Tableau

Tableau’s quick form is useful in most straightforward situations. In each of my examples, I am progressing by  using Superstore Sales dataset. The image below shows a bar graph indicating profits by state.

s1

On either the State or Profit fields, we can use a fast kind.

s2

We have typed our states by ascending or drizzling our bars on the name of the state.

s3

s4

In contrast, we can order our bars by the quantity of profit.

To visualize what Tableau has applied to make the fast sort, we can view the [the kind, the type, the kind] dialogue box (right-click on the Dimension field within the read and choose Sort).

s5

Tableau applied a fast type of profit above. Although it’s not live on the read, you’ll be able to select any live field to sort by.

In Tableau, quick sorting is helpful after we have explored our information quickly and our charts are fairly simple. Once we begin adding more fields to the read, challenges arise.

 Combined Fields

In order to create a combined field, click (while holding Ctrl) the size needed within the read. It is state and region in this case. Once all dimensions have been selected, right-click one and select mix fields from the context menu.

s6

Within the Dimensions pane, you will find the combined field. Right-clicking on the sphere will allow you to edit it at any time. You will change the order of the fields, rename the sphere, and determine what character will be used to separate the members.

s7

Having our combined field, we can re-create the read combined field instead of Region and state.

s8

The final step is to re-create the kind of the new combined field.

Here’s our final result:

It was all about Sorting in Tableau.
